Ngome Dwarf Chameleon – Bradypodion ngomeense

Size:
A larger chameleon reaching just over 150mm
Colour:
Males are a brilliant black and blue with orange or white flash along its sides. Females tend to be uniform green with dirty white patches on its side.
Habitat:
Favouring a multi layered tree canopy without the mist belt forest, known only from the protected Ngome State Forest.
Field Notes:
Due to the dense tree lined canopy these chameleons are difficult to find, although individuals have been found alongside footpaths and roadside fringes within the forest. Adults and juveniles known to be >1m to well over 8m off the forest floor amongst the canopy. Occurring in only a single forest does make this chameleon particularly vulnerable to forest fires or illegal forest clearing, although the forest does fall within a protected area.
