Pachydactyus rangeiĀ

Namib Web-Footed Gecko.

Being nocturnal, these geckos live mostly nestled in deep burrows in the desert sand where there is a moderate amount of moisture during the day. They venture out to the surface only when the desert’s temperature has dropped at night. We found several adult geckos on the tarred roads adjustment to the dunes primarily males which we assumed to be looking for potential mates.

When we ventured into the soft sand dunes around bushes and small rocky outcrops we found an abundance of these geckos mainly juveniles actively hunting small insects and moths brought on by our torch lights. Many of these geckos would stay around the mounds of sand collect by the dollar bushes, consequently where we had earlier seen a young Horned adder which presumably would make up part of their diet.
