Bibron’s Blind Snake – Afrotyphlops bibronii

Size:
Averaging only 30-40cm

Colour:
A uniform dark brown, light brown, dirty yellow as well as a dirty pinkish.

Habitat:
Fossorial snake which is found in grasslands, costal forest and well as montane regions.

Field Notes:
A common harmless that spends most of its time underground, beneath stones or logs as they are virtually blind. These snakes although common are not often seen except after rains where they may come to the surface when the ground becomes saturated. They feed on ant eggs, larva and termites. Found predominantly in the Eastern parts of the country where it favours coastal forest, montane grassland and moist savanna.
